1951 Coffee Company at the University of California Berkeley is a truly one-of-a-kind coffee shop that embodies UC Berkeley's long tradition of activism and social justice. In their words, "1951 Coffee is a non-profit specialty coffee organization seeking to promote the wellbeing of the refugee community in the San Francisco Bay Area by providing job training and employment to refugees and asylees while educating the surrounding community about refugee life and issues"--and they do that all while providing exceptional, delicious coffee to the Berkeley community.
